The best time in any sports fan or gamblers life has just passed us, and it may have been to quick. But that’s why we are here to give you a run down of what has happened. Some gamblers may be looking back and trying to find what has went wrong and why the lost so much money. Or if you just want to look back and see some of the upsets that have been unthinkable and relive them.
Many teams went into the NCAA tournament looking for upsets, some teams just happy for making it. But for teams like Duke, Connecticut, Kentucky, or Kansas it is not enough just to make the tournament. They need to win the championship to be recognized by their fans and there supporters. But then we have teams like Central Florida, or Eastern Washington, those teams just happy for being in it. You also have the teams that are looking to prove a point like Saint Joes, or Pitt, even Oklahoma State.
“I think it’s been awesome because there has never been a more unpredictable one, and all the upsets make it amazing and fun to watch. Even though the championship game was kind of a disappointment,” Andy Pittz said.
As the tournament wound down to four teams this past weekend. The match-ups for San Antonio were set. It would face Duke against Connecticut a rematch of the 1999 national championship game. Some say that this game was supposed to be the National Championship game. Of course if you saw you knew that UConn came out of that game on top but not by much. Some may think that Duke point guard Chris Duhon’s last second shot when down by four was nothing, but from a gamblers point of view it was everything. Since the point spread had UConn giving Duke two points, it made Duke win by the spread and leaving everyone who wound up taking Connecticut out in the dust. “Thousands upon thousands of dollars changed hands in just that one game because of that one shot” an ESPN announcer stated. As for the other Final Four game, which it was known by most as “the other game.” Georgia Teach and Oklahoma State did not disappoint. Going into overtime without their top player Georgia Tech still found a way to make it the National Championship game.
“The final four games were awesome, two games coming down to the final shot, you can get much better then that, and all four teams played good its not like one of them didn’t do well” Pittz stated.
With the great tournament we have had it was almost impossible to have a just as good championship game a local sports fan said. “Well I think many people thought coming in, and were right, that since OSU was upset and Kentucky was upset Connecticut would wipe the floor with GT and they did that, I mean no now wants to see a team winning by 15+ points almost the whole game” Pittz said.
The championship game matched the two teams of Georgia Tech and Connecticut. Many people felt that the championship game should have been the UConn, Duke game and the stats show that it would have been a better match up. The Final Fours most outstanding player Emeka Okafor was unstoppable an ESPN announcer said. Emeka had 24 point along with his teammate Ben Gordon going for 22 points.
Some of the best upsets ever happened in this tournament. “My favorite would have to be the Alabama upset over the number one seed Stanford.” Pittz stated.
“My favorite would have to be the Nevada upset over number two Gonzaga. No one expected them to go out and beat Michigan State and then for them to go out and beat a team that some predicted to win the national title is just unheard of!” A local sports fan said.
So some say this tournament has been the best ever except for the disappointing ending. But whether or not, a lot of many has changed hands and that is a fact!
